Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP) is a lethal disease that affects cats with a high mortality rate. Therefore, appropriate and effective treatment is essential to achieve optimal outcomes in healing cats infected with FIP.

Understanding the Concentration and Dosage of GS-441524 in Treating Cats with FIP

Basmi FIP, a pioneer in FIP treatment in Southeast Asia, is committed to assisting cats suffering from FIP in their recovery. We consistently ensure that each cat receives the appropriate treatment dosage.

Determining the Concentration and Dosage for FIP Treatment in Cats

In treating FIP, the correct dosage is key. So, how does one determine the vials and dosage for the treatment of their FIP cat?

Concentration Choice (Injection Vial)

The first step is to decide on the type of vial and concentration suitable for the cat's weight and type of FIP. GS-441524 from Basmi FIP is available in various concentrations. You can view the vial choices here.

Though each variant has the same efficacy, they require different injection volumes. For instance, for cats showing neurological symptoms or those with a higher body weight, a higher concentration (such as 30 mg/ml) is recommended. This allows for a smaller injection volume, making the injection process more comfortable for the cat.

Determining the Dosage

Based on the type of FIP, the recommended dosages are:

  • Wet FIP: 6 mg/kg

  • Dry FIP: 8 mg/kg

  • Cases with neurological or ocular symptoms: 10 mg/kg

To calculate the required dosage, you can use our dosage calculator.

What to Do in Case of a Relapse?

About 3% of cats that underwent treatment with Basmi FIP experience a relapse. Factors that can cause a relapse include:

  • Insufficient dosage during treatment.

  • Inconsistency in the treatment plan.

  • Stopping the treatment before the recommended 84-day duration.

  • Not conducting a comprehensive blood test before ending the treatment.

If a cat shows relapse symptoms, such as seizures or loss of appetite, the recommended dosage for relapse treatment is from 12 mg/kg up to 15 mg/kg (Relapse Dosage).

In certain situations, if the cat's condition doesn't improve, the dosage can be gradually increased by +2 mg/kg from the previous dose. However, this should be based on a vet's recommendation, and you should also consult with the Basmi FIP team.

The relapse treatment duration varies between 4 weeks to 12 weeks (84 days), depending on the cat's condition. If the cat's condition doesn't improve within 2 weeks, consider increasing the FIP dosage to 15 mg/kg.

FAQ

Does the dosage change if the cat's weight increases?

For optimal results, the medication dosage should remain the same even if the cat's weight decreases. However, if the cat's weight increases during treatment, the dose needs to be adjusted based on the initial weight or the highest weight during the treatment cycle.
